Sydney Harbour Bridge – Grass Picnic

Fancy a picnic on the Sydney Harbour Bridge? That’s exactly what happened, they laid out almost 3km of grass to cover the entire motorway for 6000 lucky residents to enjoy a breakfast picnic on the harbour bridge. The predicted rains kept away and it was a sensational morning!

For any doubters . . it was real grass!

Puny Parker – Season 2 – 02 – Vitor Cafaggi

Before Puny Parker by Vitor Cafaggi started Season 2, he did leave a cliffhanger storyline. I thought this one was exceptionally cute, especially with the crossover between Captain America and He-Man (Masters of the Universe)!

Baroness by Jamie Tyndall

Featured artist Jamie Tyndall showcased an amazing Wonder Woman set against a Rolling Stone cover. As well as detailed sketches, his does some amazing colouring work. Definitely worth seeing more of his work including a G.I. Joe (or Cobra in this case) Destro and Baroness, along another Wonder Woman set against an Esquire magazine cover.

Baroness

I’ve always had a thing for the Baroness. Maybe it’s the fact that’s she’s extremely hot, deliciously evil and wears glasses. Something about bad girls I suppose . . . This however does make an interesting contrast to Wonder Woman who’s really DC’s good girl.

Wonder Woman by Jamie Tyndall

Back in September I showcased Bayonetta by Jame Tyndall for a Wizard competition. Jamie also did this incredible Rolling Stone with Wonder Woman as a feature. I don’t think why the song “Papa was a rolling stone” popped in my head but it’s not leaving. Arrgh!

So where are you from? How did you get into comics?

I’m a 70’s kid from Brantford, ON. I grew up on GIJOE and Star Wars. A cousin of mine got me hooked on comic book, mainly X-Men, as a teenager and I started drawing comics at around the same time. I guess I just never stopped!

How would you describe your artwork?

I enjoy the art of 1990’s to early 2000 comic books. I think it reflects in my work. One word to describe my art: detail. I love details in the characters and backgrounds. Since I also ink and colour my work, my love of details often comes back to bite me.

Did you pursue any specific path to follow your artwork?

I went to both UofT (University of Toronto) and Sheridan College in a co-studies program in Arts, Arts History. I did do some studio art while in school. As far as comic book art, I learned by referencing artists I enjoy and going to comic-con to meet artists and ask questions. I learned a lot at comic cons from Joel Gomez, Beth Sotelo and Alex Sinclair. They have been generous with their time and I thank them for that.

Who do you rate as your artistic influences?

I am inspired by the art of Jim Lee, J. Scott Campbell, Marc Silvestri and the late Michael Turner. For colours, I reference Peter S., Alex Sinclair and Beth Sotelo. If anyone references any of these artist in relation to my artwork, they’ll make my day.

Thanks for your time!
As well as letting me showcase your work. Keep watching this space as I will be getting more of Jamie’s work up.

Bizarro Superman by Adam Cline

Previous featured artist Adam Cline is showcasing a Bizarro Superman coloured with prismacolor markers. It’s a fantastic piece even capturing the distant, vacant look on Bizarro’s face.

Puny Parker – Season 2 – Vitor Cafaggi

Season 1 Finale –Puny Parker Season 1 Finale

What plots do you have in plan for Season 2?
Right know, we are reading the Halloween II saga! We already had the ‘Return of Captain America’ with a certain blind guess star. And at the beginning of 2010 ‘The black costume saga’!

Any new characters being introduced?
The main cast will be the same. Expect more Black Kitty, Mrs. Brant, Little Mrs. Stacy . . and a certain hot head guess star.

Any character changes? Looks? etc.
Just Puny Parker changed his look for this second season. But I can tell you that for the third season, one of the character is gonna have a major look change.

Thanks for your time and I think it’s fantastic you are already planning for Season 3!

Anyway I thought I’d include the start to Season 2! Remember to check out more of Vitor’s work at http://punyparker.blogspot.com

It’s great to see Mary Jane again! This one reminds me of this previous strip where we get to see the characters all grown up.

Artwork of Yohann Schepacz (OYO!)

Yohann Schepacz (a.k.a. OYO!) is a freelancer in the entertainment and publishing industry for 4 years where he has worked as art director, concept artist and illustrator. His showcase piece covers original sketch to final completed piece.

When you were growing up what did you want to do?

I was born with a voice. My parents had big plans for me : they wanted me to become the new Pavarotti… But a childhood spent playing with lego toys, frog legs, and Bourgogne snails can do a lot to a child’s brain. After 15 years of such frolicking, I lost the use of my tenor voice on a terribly rainy Movember day in the little town of Pureedsorrows. I was left only with my eyes to cry and my hands to scribble the weird ideas going through my polarized French mind. Fortunately, that very same day I found a big turquoise pen in a tiny rabbit hole and started to scribble and doodle everywhere I could.

So after meeting the turtle and doodling, what was the next?

Well . . . I spent the following 7 years travelling the world on the back of my narcoleptic chameleon Francis, experimenting and learning, feeding my imagination…. At some point of the ellipse, my skills started to meet my expectations and I experienced true narcotic moments of creative bliss, realized they were even better than a full spoon of Nutella, and so, probably worth spending the rest of my life looking for them. I never stopped since then.

You must have been working on various projects? Anything you’ve just completed?

I have just illustrated my second children book called TI Gouya published by Epsilon Edition, which will be released in France in November. And I’m starting a new series of 24 children books with Scholastic Australia. The first book will hit the shelves around March normally. And most importantly, I’ll be moving to Shanghai soon to work as Environment Artist for a new french video game studio. So far so good

How would you describe your artwork?

The results of years of introspection while exiled on a remote tropical island, drinking sand and eating water. These artworks express themselves (mostly without my consent) through markers, acrylics, oils, sweat and tears, but mostly digitally on those windows over the world we called canvas.

How did you learn you craft?

I’ve been to 2 graphic design schools, one in France and one in Australia, where I learned how to use the digital tools. Apart from that I taught myself how to draw and paint, all the traditional knowledge comes from practice, lots of observations and tons of readings. I’d still love to go to those awesome art schools like The Illustration Academy in Florida or Les Gobelins in Paris to learn from the best but I don’t have the time anymore. Now I’m developing my own ways which is good too!

Thanks for an amazing showcase! I love the development of your showcase piece.

Boy Genius 01 by Jennifer Tanner

It’s been a while since the last Puny Parker post. The artist Vitor is still continuing the adventures here. However a while ago I did an interview with Jennifer Tanner about her strip Boy Genius. Thought I’d showcase another one of her strips!

Boy Genius Dr Octopus

Puny Parker has been fantastic but I’d thought I’ll share the showcase space with other artists currently on my list. Before I forget don’t forget to check out some links to Jennifer’s work below!

Comicartcommunity by Terry Maltos

Comicartcommunity is a fantastic resource website for anyone interested in comic art. I had the opportunity to discuss with the founder Terry Maltos, on his site and the impact to the comic art artists.

When did you start up comicartcommunity?

Summer of 2003 if I’m not mistaken. I *think* we’re 6 years old.

Did you start the site by yourself or are they are any other founders? Why was the motivation for starting up?

Well, the initial founder is and has always been *me*. Terry Maltos. I started the site to offer Comic Art Auctions. An alternative to FEEbay. That went well for a time but eventually faded out because the Gallery Of Comic Art was the spot getting all of the traffic. So instead of being an Auctions site like we once were, we’re primarily a comic art images gallery now.

So what are your future plans?

Ah, the future. Well, I hope to have a flying car. If I can get a flying car, I think I would be ok. If not – a joy ride in outer space would be cool. I’d love to look down on the earth from above in some luxury space shuttle.

Haha . . that’s cool and all but . . .

Wait – do you mean… The web sites? The sites I’d love to watch evolve as they will. I want to continue representing my friend Al Rio and watching him draw. Here’s a sample of A Rio’s work.

Al Rio Comic Art

I also want to reach a million images at the Gallery Of Comic Art – but we’re only at 34,225 now and that has taken 6 years … I would hope to see Comic Art Commissions become “the” go-to place for artists and buyers. I also hope to somehow make some money doing all of this. Right now, it’s all *costing* me greatly.

How does it feel supporting the artist community?

Since I’m so into art, it’s great. This is like a hobby to me. I love *comic art* in particular because of the characters and creativity. I’m always a big fan of people with talent. So it’s my pleasure to be serving the artist community.

Thanks for your time Terry!
