As you mentioned in your kickstarter, this was your first writing project. What was your inspiration?

Firstly I was inspired by Ben Dunn of Ninja Highshool and Fred Perry as a kid. It wouldn’t be until I was in my late teens that I realize Dunn was Asian and Perry was Black. It impacted a lot as a Black kid growing up as I thought most people who drew and wrote comics were White. That only encouraged me to try harder to get into comics and it lifted my spirits as where I grew up most people told you would be good at certain things based on your race. Other inspirations are from 80s cartoon shows such as Jace and the Wheeled Warriors. games like Legend of Zelda, Final fantasy and later World of Warcraft. Tabletop games like Dungeons and Dragons. Steamboy got me into Steampunk as well as Fullmetal Alchemist as I had not heard of it up until that point.

Was it hard to get your team assembled?

Yes! We didn’t have everyone at the beginning while some of the team coming on later. Most people from the services (hire) website were expensive! At one point Jezreel Rojales and I had a falling out but it was resolved to complete the project.

What was your inspiration for the main character?

Deadpool meets Riley Freeman from Boondocks. Very high-strung, ambitious, unpredictable, and talkative while at the same time he is uncertain, compassion, and mature when he wants to be!

How far have you planned out the series?

It will have 4 chapters with the first 4 being the first issue.
It’s a finite series with a definitive ending.

Thanks for your time and good luck on your story and the kickstarter project.

This is my favourite sequence of Act 2 where the two kittens (from the different families) work together to steal some fish!

Check out Page 4 detailed pencils.

I’ll be alternating between showing the roughs and the detailed pencils by artist P.R. Dedelis. This one is a nice action sequence as the local animal control person chases out the family of cats.

Act 2 builds on the conflict as the new family of cats begin to steal fish away from Tabby’s family. It’s also the chance for the B-Story between the 2 kittens to develop. A second chance meeting as the 2 kittens literally bump into each other again.

Peackeeper by Nicole Kane and Matt Lao

Click here for the Kickstarter project.

Gods of War, Demi and Kya take up arms as the Pæcekeepers to become the last line of defense the world has from itself!

Pæcekeepers is currently on kickstarter seeking funding to complete the artwork and fund the publication. The story revolves around two re-incarnated Egyptian gods (who comes back as girls) who are a militrary unit. The author N. S. Kane provided the script for the first 17 pages for this site’s review. It’s a strong introduction to the 2 main characters.

Thanks for your time and the script! The artwork is Matt Lao is incredible.
How did you plan the relationship between the 2 protagonists?

I did try to make it a sibling rivalry between them.
In the end though, Kya really looks up to Demi as so much more.

The first part of the script was just the introduction. How far have you planned out the story and is the main villain appearing soon?

I have 5 issues in total planned out and there is a main villain coming into the next issue. He’s pretty nasty and enjoys pulling the puppet strings from behind the curtain.

So what’s the next steps?

The plan is to do the 5 issues and complete the story arc and then get it into a volume. The artist is locked in for all 5 and he’s very excited to get the second script already.

Thanks for your time and good luck with the kickstarter campaign!

Betty Wicked by John Daniel Taylor IV

Link to Betty Wicked Kickstarter

Betty Wicked lives in a haunted house, her car is possessed, her cell phone is lost in another dimension and those are the good things!

Created and written by John Daniel Taylor IV with pencils provided by Juan Francisco Moyano. This project is current on Kickstarter. Support the project to make sure it gets funded. I was provided a copy to review by the creator (along with some of his time!) and it was definitely a fun read with an interesting premise and characters!

Thanks again for the preview copy and your time! I really enjoyed some of the horror references that you managed to get into the story.

What/Who was the inspiration for Betty?

I wanted a girl that acted real and modern at the same time. I like my characters to act real, so I wanted to create someone that acted that way. Betty hates bugs(even though she is not suppose to), but she cannot kill them. Also, she does not kill, she employs a nonviolent tactic to battles to incapacitate enemies. In other words, she can take care of herself.

How long was the writing process?

I originally wrote Betty as a backup character in 2004 for a webcomic called Frank Fletcher, Illiterate Psychic. Frank was a spinoff of another series I had running at the time too. Betty showed up in issue #2 and as I continued to write the comic, I found it was more about Betty and less about Frank. Eventually all of that was shelved, then about a year ago I went back through some of my old files and found the scripts to the old Frank stories. 3 months and a whole bunch of research later, I had a finished draft for Betty Wicked #1 and was ready to go. As far as the process, I am still making small adjustments to the script. The final will be different than you Review copy, but that is normal in this business.

How long and what steps did you take to get the project ready for kickstarter?

For the Betty Wicked Kickstarter, I planned months ahead. I can say this, the best tools for running a campaign is looking at other projects first. See what they are doing. See what they have to offer and see what you can offer. I have done a few of these, so I learned by trial and error. My first two Kickstarters were complete (unknown) failures. A lot of that was due to lack of publicity and not really understanding the business of running a kickstarter. You live you learn.

Good luck with your kickstarter campaign and really hope you get funded.

Project Tabby – Act 1 Page 4 – Detailed Pencils

A quick showcase of the difference between the Roughs and Detailed Pencils for Act 1 Page 4 with artwork by P.R. Dedelis. The family of cats sadly watch as their local fish market is closed. This is the initial catalyst which makes this family of cats move into Tabby’s neighbourhood.

Click for Act 2 – Page 1 Roughs.

Act 1 serves as the setup or the catalyst of the story. With the closure of their local fish market, another family of cats enters Tabby’s neighborhood. Act 2 sees the conflict build as this new family starts taking fish away from Tabby’s family!

Project Tabby – Start of Act 2

Act 2 starts with a new day. It’s really a setup page with Tabby’s life on the left and the Fish Market Family of cats on the right. While Tabby gets up in his cozy bed and struts the neighborhood, the other family of cats had the brave the outside and are now planning their next move.
