Harley Quinn by Shelton Bryant

Originally an editor, Shelton decided to move into illustration working on various mediums from pencils to oils. His showcase work below was a commission to illustrate Harley Quinn’s dreams. The initial sketch captures the concept very well and has a very surreal feel to it.

Preliminary Sketch :

However he decided to replace the teddy bear with a rattle in the second preliminary sketch to see how it would look.

Second Preliminary :

The colours really bring out the final piece which gives it a “dream” like quality.

Such a unique style of creating form. Always a stand-out on the CAF.com ebay auctions.

    SIGMATE :
    Definitely! Very unique artwork.

  2. Another great artist profile. I really like the surrealist style of this piece. Very nicely done.

  3. I love Shelton’s style and I actually own two of his pieces he’d done last year. His approach to illustrating the various characters is definitely “surreal” and almost gestural. It reminded me of my life class studies whereas me and my classmates were told to not draw but instead try and capture the essence of the model onto the newsprint. Shelton’s shading feels the form yet allows a lot of free room for the viewer to build upon the character through there imagination. I really hope that Shelton considers doing sequential artwork- he would be a plus to the comic book field. Peace
