Creating a graphic novel but stopping along the way to take some photos, eat some food and admire great art!

Black Cat by Jacob Newell – Part 2

From Part 1 – Jacob took the final inked image and digitally applied colours to it. The colouring for this work is very subtle but suit the image well.

Saved the best for last!
Enjoy the below completed work.

Black Cat by Jacob Newell – Part 1

I was fortunate enough to purchase this collection of 3 pieces of original art directly from the artist.

  1. Pencils
  2. Inks
  3. Coloured

Original pencils were done on copy paper. Using a light table, the image was inked directly onto card stock paper. I love the detail that Jacob has put in Black Cat’s hair. Absolutely fantastic work! Completed coloured work will appear in the next post on this site.

More of Jacob’s work can be found in the below link :

For more of his work, he sells his work under eBay id peanutcomix as one half of Banebrook Studios with Robert Oglesbee (Peanut).

Manly Sea Eagles – 2008 NRL Premiership!

For those who follow the NRL, today’s Grand Final between the Manly Sea Eagles and the Melbourne Storm was a fantastic match. It was an extremely tense first 20 minutes with both sides playing their hearts out. Two tries to Manly brought the halftime score to 8-0. Still anyone’s game at this point, a converted try and the game would be a contest once again.

However, after the start of the second half everything changed. The Storm looked tired and unfocused which was quickly pounced upon by a hungry Manly side eager to avenge last year’s loss. A close game became a blowout with the final score 40-0. The Manly side holding out whatever the Storm could throw at them and following up with some spectacular plays. Devastated after Manly’s last year’s Grand Final loss only made this victory taste so much sweeter.

Additional Information :
Rugby League is very much an Australian sport and played mostly in New South Wales (Sydney is the capital of NSW). It’s a very simple premise (similar to Rugby Union or NFL) get the ball to your opponent’s end to score a try and stop your opponent’s from crossing into your side.

New TV Season – Heroes – Supernatural – Fringe

Taking a break from regular blogging to note . . . there are so many great new shows starting this season including Fringe (Joshua Jackson) and Mentalist (Simon Baker). There is also the return of old favorites like Supernatural and Heroes!

Supernatural has taken an interesting turn this season with Dean Winchester a possible agent of God whilst Heroes is focusing on villians this time. Can’t wait for the stories to develop. Ahhh . . new TV season . . isn’t it great?

2 months in review

It’s now just over 2 months since I started this website. I’ve completed my first submission to a Melbourne based comic anthology. Just hoping it can be accepted and my first work published! Found some great artist and posted up some more commissions.

At the moment I’m still working on my art.
It’s not quite at point I would like it but been doing heaps of sketching when I can find the time. There’s 2 story ideas I’m throwing up at the moment . . I kind of know what I want to write but difficult finding the time pulling the ideas of from my head into words. Will post more about the stories once things progress more!

Phoenix by David Enciso – Part 2

With the preliminary sketch approved I made 2 comments to David :

  1. A darker colour scheme. Darker reds on her costume.
  2. Fire surrounding her in a phoenix shape.

The colouring moved the sketch to a whole new level. Attention to detail and how the flames are shown are simply amazing. Notice the phoenix outline in the background. This is one of the best coloured pieces I have seen!

I can’t recommend David enough. Extremely professional through the design process and his speed at turning around work is fantastic. There was one other small piece I requested from him and it will be posted on this site but that will have to wait for a little while. Anyway, see the below final image in all its glory.

Phoenix by David Enciso – Part 1

David Enciso is a Canadian artist, illustrator, concept artist extraordinaire. His website http://www.davidenciso.com/ has some of the most amazing samples of his work. Very clean drawings and amazing details in his colouring.

I bid on one of his eBay commissions (his eBay id is dextroyer1980 and his items for sale are here) and unfortunately I was outbid towards the end. However, was fortunate enough to pick up a second chance auction! The request I made to David was Dark Phoenix (Jean Grey) in a dynamic pose surrounded by flames. He presented the below sketch within 24 hours of receiving the description. That’s a fast turnaround!

I love the pose! It’s not a traditional pin up pose and shows Jean in a very strong angle.

Latte

From a little cafe about 10 minutes from where I live.
It doesn’t serve Green Tea Latte but it serves great coffee.

Green Tea Latte

It’s not a Green Tea Cappuccino but would you say “No” to a Green Tea Latte?

Paris Skyline from Notre Dame – Photo

This view of the Paris skyline was taken from the top of Notre Dame. I really like the composition and if you look at the horizon, you’ll notice the Eiffel tower. Although taken from the same place this photo is very different to the Garygoyle photo. I refer to this as my “Batman” photo as I would imagine this is how he views the world from the rooftops.
