What is Generations?

It’s a anthology I release to help promote local Australian talent. It provides a platform for artists to show their work. In Taiwan, a manga artist can be a full time profession but that industry that does not exist here yet.

That’s very cool. Besides Generations what’s else have you thought about? Further study?

Well . . I’ve considered doing a course in Canada from imaginism studios. Although I do love sodoku and other logic games! I’ve also thought about starting a comedy anthology!

Who would you rate as your influences?

My influences are shojo artists Ichiko Ima, Fumi Yoshinaga, Reiko Okano and Moto Hagio, both in terms of story and art.

Thanks for your time for the interview. Wish you all the best with Generations. Check out the below link for more information on Generations 2009.

Whopper – Hungry Jacks – Photography

Thought I’d enjoy a Whopper meal from Hungry Jacks as well as play around with the camera. I was trying to see how the camera’s Black & White turned out and a chance to see if I can get some nice contrast in those photos.

A continuation from the previous post, in this strip we see the introduction of the Green Goblin. What better time than Halloween?

From yesterday’s post, I thought I’d showcase one final bit of Randy’s work. His sequential storytelling and detailing is amazing. Even without the words, you know what’s happening on the page.

Randy Valiente’s Artwork

Randy Valiente is a comicbook artist, illustrator and concept artist from Manila, Philippines who enjoys graphic novels and mountain climbing, trekking, and other nature tripping in his free time. He also does the most extraordinary artwork!

What type of artwork do you specialise in?

I came from a traditional Filipino style in comicbook art. I am trained more on realistic drawings and traditional brushworks. But as I became more mature in art, I incorporate other foreign styles not only from comicbooks but from fine arts. I also learn to adopt to other disciplines like animation and game designs. I think, my art now is more about flexibility. I could do artworks from cartoony to realistic.

Are you studying at the moment?

I am a student of Joseph Christian Santiago and Hal Santiago, he is one of the pillars of comicbook illustrations in the Philippines. But I think, studying art is endless and I am still learning from experience.

Who would you consider your artistic influences?

I have tons of artistic influences from illustrators to fine artists. But on top of my lists are from local artists Hal Santiago, Nestor Redondo, Francisco Coching, Alex NiƱo, Alfredo Alcala. Other foreign artists are Harold Foster, Alex Raymond, Norman Rockwell, Frank Frazzetta, Carlos Meglia and Mobius and Yoshitaka Amano.

I also admire works from concept artists like Doug Chiang, Ryan Church, Justin Sweet. Animators like Glenn Keanne. Not to forget . . I am also a big fan of Renaissance painters.

Is there anything you are working on at the moment?

I am currently doing couple of comicbooks for UK and US market which I cannot reveal the title yet . And I am almost finish doing concept art for an I-phone game from an independent game company which will be out in a month or two. I also just finished doing the storyboard and concept art for a local animated movie entitled DAYO (Wanderer) and planning to do artworks again for animation studios any time soon.

Thanks for your time!
Your work is absolutely amazing.

Tim Sale – Autograph – Sketch

Getting the chance to meet Tim Sale was awesome already! Managing to obtain a couple of sketches was the icing on the cake. In the previous post, I sent one of the sketches to a friend of mine.

His response to receiving the sketch is here :

A continuation from the previous post, I like this one! Peter finally get’s one up from Flash and displays a little of the Parker sense of humour that we all know and love!

Tim Sale – Hiro – Batman – Supanova – Sketches

I managed to get 2 awesome sketches from Tim Sale (Heroes, Batman – Dark Victory). I asked of one of Hiro from Heroes. Loved the facial expression and the “Yatta!”. The second sketch was a Batman one for a friend of mine who will be absolutely shocked when he gets it in the mail!

Tim Sale – Supanova – Apperance – Autograph

After dodging the clutches of Gogo, I was fortunate enough to meet superstar artist Tim Sale. Tim’s most recognised works are of Isaac Mendez’s paintings in the TV Series Heroes. Managed to get a couple of graphic novels signed including Batman – Dark Victory, Batman – Long Hallowen and Heroes Vol 1 & 2. He was very pleasant the whole time and even did a couple of sketches for me. Check out tomorrow’s post to see how the sketches turned out.
